Vick is back in the NFL

August 14, 2009

As reported by ESPN.com:

Quarterback Michael Vick has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles, his agent, Joel Segal, confirmed to ESPN.com.

Damn. I honestly thought the Pats would get him and flip him to another team in the offseason. I think the reason he signed with the Eagles is so that when he plays in Philly he won’t get harassed as much as he would if he were on another team. Smart move. Philly fans are awful. Keep your enemies closer, right?

Who wants him? Anyone? Bueller?

June 12, 2009

I was going to post something about the fact that after the rain delay last night at the Nationals game, there were only 100 people left. But then some other news came across my “desk”:

ATLANTA – The Michael Vick era in Atlanta is officially over.

Falcons general manager Thomas Dimitroff said the team relinquished its contractual rights to Vick on Friday.

So now we will hear actual banter about where ol’ Ronnie will head. Raiders? ‘Skins? AFL? CFL? Who knows?

One thing is certain though, and that is Roger Goodell doesn’t know if he will let Mexico back into the NFL. OK, so the certain thing is an uncertainty, what the hell do you want from me? Seriously Lindsay Lohan? What do you want? Lindsay Lohan with all those little outfits, jumping around there on stage, half-naked with your little outfits. Ya know? You’re a… You’re out there jumping around and I’m just sitting here with my beer. So, what am I supposed to do? What you want? You know, are we gonna go out? Is that what you’re trying to – why why are you leaping around there, throwing those things all up in my, over there in my face? What do you want, Lindsay? Tell me what you want? Well, I’ll tell you what you want, you want nothing. You want nothing. All right? Because we all know that no woman anywhere wants to have sex with anyone, and to titillate us with any thoughts otherwise is – is just bogus.

Sorry, got off topic there. In sum, Michael Vick: no longer with the Falcons.

The rumor mill is cranking

May 26, 2009

ESPN.com is saying there’s a chance Michael Vick may head to the ‘Skins. Whether true or not, it may make sense, as the ‘Skins have pretty much done everything but tell Jason Campbell to his face that they don’t really want him at QB. A high-profile quarterback who has proven that he is pretty good in the NFL no matter how long ago seems right up Dan Snyder’s alley.

He’s out

May 20, 2009

RICHMOND, Va. – An attorney for Michael Vick says the suspended NFL star has left a Kansas prison and is on his way back to Virginia to meet the next challenges he’ll face.

Larry Woodward, a member of Vick’s legal team, says Vick left the federal penitentiary at Leavenworth overnight. Woodward says Vick is happy to be starting this part of the process. He’s due to return to Virginia later this week to begin serving the final two months of his sentence under home confinement at a home he owns in Hampton.

And so begins the attempt to get back into the football world. Some are saying Goodell may ban him from the league, but in my opinion, if he hasn’t done it already, then he probably won’t do it. And also, if Ray Lewis can kill a guy with his own hands, I don’t see why Vick can’t come back from funding a dog fighting ring. And ask the Fiancee, you won’t find a bigger dog fan than me.

I just hope that for his sake and the sake of everyone, that he doesn’t go and play for the Raiders. That team just needs to go away. Now that Jake Grove is on the Dolphins and DeAngelo Hall is on the ‘Skins, of course.

Side note: Did anyone see that Bruce Smith got busted for a DUI the other day? What is up with all these former VT football players being in the news lately?

Side Side note: Going through the list of VT players in the NFL I found out that apparently Glennon is quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. That would explain why Favre is on the fence about playing. Too tough of competition.

Biggest bust?

April 22, 2009

Looking at this article on NBCSports.com, it lists the top few NFL bust by school and then lets you vote on who you think is the top NFL bust. According to the 283 votes at the time I viewed the page, it was concluded, overwhelmingly, that Michael Vick was the biggest bust to come out of VT.

Now, if the question was: who was the biggest waste of talent that got involved in a disgusting extra-curricular act, then yes I would vote Michael Vick. But when compared to EVERY other player in the list, whose “bust” level was based on performance in the NFL and Vick’s “bust”ness was based on the fact that he is in prison, and not on how he performed in the NFL, I feel like he doesn’t even qualify as a bust.

Here’s why:
1. His NFL numbers were good and he changed the face of the Atlanta Falcons
2. He is not permanently banned from the NFL and can still come back to improve on his records
3. The missed playing years are not due to poor performance or injury, but rather being an awful human being.

Case in point: Ricky Williams and Ray Lewis were not considered “busts” by this article and yet both lost playing time for non-football reasons. And Ricky Williams is definately not the back he was in college.

I’d like to hear what the arguments are for this one, so as always, post in the comment section. Is Michael Vick the biggest bust from VT?

Editor’s note: Vick got 68% of the vote with Jim Druckenmiller coming in second with 21%… it wasn’t even close.

This is getting out of hand

April 17, 2009

The reality show phenomenon has been going strong for about 5-10 years now, and recently it seems anyone can get a show as long as their story is even fleetingly interesting. Case-in-Point: Daisy of Love, a love-finding show with a rejected member of the Rock of Love 2 cast. Let me re-type that sentence so you can get a better feel for it. Daisy of Love, a love-finding show with a rejected member of the Rock of Love 2 cast.

Flavor of Love (the first one) was kind of funny. Kind of. Now we’ve dropped so low that Daisy of Love, a show who’s title doesn’t even make sense, has prime time air play.

But this is just the lead up to the main point of this post: Michael Vick may be getting his own reality show.

What? Seriously? Now I can’t say what I’m thinking: “Who the hell would watch this show” because I know damn well that a lot of people would watch this show. A lot of people watched Tool Academy. But that still doesn’t take away the fact that this is so embarrassing for our culture it makes me want to move to New Zealand. Well there are a few other things that make me want to move to New Zealand, but that’s besides the point.

When is this awful trend of tired reality show after tired reality show end? When can we get back to the hilarious and SCRIPTED shows being all over the place, like The Office, 30 Rock, and Grey’s Anatomy Scrubs? These shows make you laugh for the right reasons. Not because of the pathetic reason that the person on the show has just gotten out of jail for dog fighting and is working for $10/hour at a construction job when they used to make millions every Sunday.

You’re better than this America. Pick it up.
