This is getting out of hand

April 17, 2009

The reality show phenomenon has been going strong for about 5-10 years now, and recently it seems anyone can get a show as long as their story is even fleetingly interesting. Case-in-Point: Daisy of Love, a love-finding show with a rejected member of the Rock of Love 2 cast. Let me re-type that sentence so you can get a better feel for it. Daisy of Love, a love-finding show with a rejected member of the Rock of Love 2 cast.

Flavor of Love (the first one) was kind of funny. Kind of. Now we’ve dropped so low that Daisy of Love, a show who’s title doesn’t even make sense, has prime time air play.

But this is just the lead up to the main point of this post: Michael Vick may be getting his own reality show.

What? Seriously? Now I can’t say what I’m thinking: “Who the hell would watch this show” because I know damn well that a lot of people would watch this show. A lot of people watched Tool Academy. But that still doesn’t take away the fact that this is so embarrassing for our culture it makes me want to move to New Zealand. Well there are a few other things that make me want to move to New Zealand, but that’s besides the point.

When is this awful trend of tired reality show after tired reality show end? When can we get back to the hilarious and SCRIPTED shows being all over the place, like The Office, 30 Rock, and Grey’s Anatomy Scrubs? These shows make you laugh for the right reasons. Not because of the pathetic reason that the person on the show has just gotten out of jail for dog fighting and is working for $10/hour at a construction job when they used to make millions every Sunday.

You’re better than this America. Pick it up.
