More Un-important BCS news

May 11, 2009
GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Atlantic Coast Conference has added a bowl to its lineup of nine postseason games.

The league said Friday the Mobile, Ala.-based GMAC Bowl will replace the Humanitarian Bowl in Boise, Idaho, in the conference’s postseason lineup.

The GMAC Bowl will have the ninth pick of eligible ACC teams this year, while the EagleBank Bowl in Washington, D.C., which had the final pick last year, moves up to the No. 8 pick of ACC teams.

The ACC champion once again will play in the Orange Bowl unless it is ranked either first or second in the final BCS standings. In that case, it will play in the BCS title game in Pasadena, Calif.

Well, now we have that cleared up. Honestly, I didn’t even know the ACC was part of the Humanitarian Bowl. Learn something new everyday. On another note, how is GM still sponsoring a bowl game? (GMAC is the financing wing). Aren’t they on the verge of collapse and preparing to file for bankruptcy? Is the bowl game considered an asset that they can sell off? If so who would buy the bowl? Would it be (finally) some business related to college? The Trojan Condom Bowl? The Natty Light Bowl? The Ramen Noodle Bowl? I need answers dammit!

Breaking news: College football playoffs could hurt bowl games

May 1, 2009

It’s a proud day for the ACC when our Commissioner, John Swofford, testifies before Congress saying that institution of a playoff would “put the 29 games that are not part of the BCS in peril.”

No. Shit. But let’s be honest here, who the hell cares about the other bowl games except the teams playing in them? When everyone is watching the 8-team playoff to see who is going to be the official champion of the college football world, it is assumed that the numbers watching the other games will drop off.

In my opinion, this would be a good thing. If you want to take a look at it, having all those bowl games ruins the integrity of the other bowl games. The fact that a team that is basically playing .500 ball can make a bowl is stupid. Bowls are supposed to be for the teams that have played a successful season. Winning half your games is not successful.

By putting in place this playoff, we will have much better football being played, because now there are several teams that have the chance to win a championship even if they haven’t been ranked number 1 in the biased polls. Also, a playoff would help end the “Boise State is sooo good” argument once and for all. God I hate their pretentious blue field.

Will the playoff hurt the 29 non-BCS bowls. Damn right it will, but those bowls are unnecessary. they’re like the crappy trophies you got in tee ball as a kid. It was a POS, but if you earned it, it was as good as gold. Now they’re giving them to every kid, and the trophies have gone back to meaning nothing. Just like the bowl games. Great, you won the Bell Helicopter’s Bowl. You still suck ass, and now end the season with 7 wins. Congratualtions, here’s your crappy trophy.

A playoff would put some legitimacy into the championship title. Hell, there have been like 42 “champions” in the last 5 years because no one can unanimously agree who the best team in the country is. Playoffs would make that happen. There would still be the bowl games for all the loser schools who don’t get into the top 8 teams, and they might lose some viewership, but they’ll still have the fans of the two teams support their guys. And for many of them, that’s really all they have now.

UNC: University of the National Champions

April 7, 2009

Yep, everyone saw last night, UNC annihilated Michigan State to win the National Championship. Good for them. They played hard and won big. As much as I want to diminish this win due to my jealousy, I can’t. They aren’t Duke. They play well and they generally play clean. It sucks. We’ll just beat them in football.

Everyone was saying they weren’t good enough, they weren’t the “sexy pick”, Michigan St. had the home court advantage, etc. Well, eff you, the ACC is still the best basketball conference (and the second best football conference). I don’t hear all the sports pundits yapping about the Big East anymore. Say what you want about having two teams in the Final Four, we have the National Champion. And it wasn’t even close.

Hell, WE only lost to UNC by 3. We could have beat Michigan State. Well probably not, but that’s my argument and logically it makes sense. But anyways, the NCAA champion is in the ACC and not the Big East. So ‘Nova beat Duke. Big whup. Duke blows. They cheat and their coach looks just like Hitler. But when ‘Nova plays a good ACC team, they get manhandled. So did Michigan State. We didn’t get manhandled. Ergo, we’re better than ‘Nova and Michigan State, ergo, the ACC is better than the Big East and the Big Ten. GO HOKIES!!

Note: I came up with that title all by myself. No fake. No fake.
